The harvest this year came early.  I look forward to growing more again next year… and ever year!

Playing with the new camera at the Ottawa Horticultural Society

I took a quick trip to Newfoundland last week for work.  I visited St. Johns mostly but took a few out trips to Cape Spear and to Cupids.  Today is the 400th anniversary of Cupids – the first English settlement in Canada!!  The roof top view of me and Conception Bay is at Cupids. 

For those of you who saw me surfing websites all winter trying to decide which seeds to buy and who then heard about me starting the garden before Easter to get the seeds going, I’m happy to report my little garden is flourishing!

Behind the fence we built two small boxes for my gardens.  Starting from the left I’ve got Painted Lady Runner Beans, mesculin and lettuce mix, carrots, lemon cucumbers growing up the wall, three types of peppers (the seedlings got all mixed up), yellow wax bush beans, black pear tomatoes, beets, and gai lan.  I pulled up some of the beets last weekend and had a taste – it was a mixed bag of beet seeds – and the two I tried were delicious.  Some of my yellow beans are about ready and we’ve been eating lettuce non-stop for months.  It got a bit overgrown so I reseeded this weekend but grew half as much as we don’t eat that much lettuce.

The purple flowers are borage I palanted around the trees out front.  They look really pretty in the sun!

Tanya and I went to Southern California last week (June 29-July 4) – here are some pics from our Wine/Food/Beach vacation!

Itinerary:
June 29 – Flew Air Canada YOW-YYZ-SNA (Upgraded to executive class – woohoo!), picked up our cherry red rustang convertible, stayed at the Hilton Costa Mesa in Anaheim
June 30 – Drove to Temecula, did some outlet shopping in Lake Elsinore, some wine tasting, and stayed at the South Coast Winery Resort and Spa. Ate some spectacular food
July 1 – More wine tasting, toured old town Temecula, ate more spectacular food and drove to Ranchos Costa Verdes, stayed at the Terranea Resort and Spa
July 2 – Went hiking along the cliffs and beaches around Ranchos Costa Verdes, visited the glass chapel designed by Frank Lloyd Wright’s son, ate more spectacular food, stayed again at the Terranea Resort and Spa
July 3 – Visited the Abalone Coastal Reserve to see the tide pools, went to the beach at the resort, stayed the night at the Terranea Resort and Spa, drank too much.
July 4 – SNA-YYZ-YOW (upgraded again)!

Well, I ran out of space with my hosting provider so I renewed the domain with someone else and moved all of my stuff over to Kyle’s server, which has unlimited bandwidth and space .. great right? Tanya and I have decided to spend the May 2-4 long weekend packing (2-4 not pictured!). We are in the new house in one week and are getting very excited. The boxes have provided an excellent vantage point for the cats – something they really aren’t used to since we are currently in a basement apartment. We drove to the new house today to check it out – our garage doors were on, our granite countertops were in and our cupboards were installed! Our Pre-Delivery Inspection is on Wednesday.

Anyways, back to drinking. … er … I mean packing!

One month mark today; we dropped by the site and gave the multitudes of Quebecois bricklayers some beer and pop. The house exterior is close to being finished!

Lorraine also sent us a picture of our “Peatt Pile” which is being carefully guarded 24/7. We were out shopping again this weekend so Lorraine and Skip, if you are reading this, we will make a deposit shortly (please inform the guard).
